1. About Doctor of Theology

The Doctor of Theology degree is an advanced academic degree intended to prepare students for professional careers in teaching, writing, and scholarship in academics, religious organizations, social service organizations, or foundations. Students are given with considerable latitude to design the studies to meet specific needs and interests. Students are exercised under the guidance of the doctoral committee, who establish examination and dissertation protocols that form the structure of the program. The students in Doctor of Theology program study Christian traditions with a deep respect for the beliefs and practices of the tradition. Ph.D. and Th.D. degrees, the highest degrees offered by the school of theology, are programs foundational for teaching at seminary, college, or university level, and prepare a student for vocation in theological teaching and scholarship.

2. Student Learning Outcomes

  • Should demonstrate on a doctoral level, high proficiency and comprehensive knowledge of the discipline of their study.
  • Be able to critically reflect on the vocation of theological scholarship, with regard to teaching, learning, and research.
  • Design and implement theological systems in light of orthodox evangelical theology that would work in churches, are biblically-based, sensitive to culture, and serviceable to the church.
  • Research skills appropriate to their field of study, engaging in original research and writing that advances theological understandings serviceable to the church, academy, and society.
  • Be able to design programs and teach on a doctoral level, students of theology at seminaries, Christian schools, or colleges.

3. Future Ministry/Career Possibilities
